Matchplay mondays

⛳ Matchplay Mondays: Comprehensive Format and Rules

We will be competing in both Singles and Doubles formats simultaneously every week.

I. Match Scoring Formats

1. Singles Matches (75% Index)This season, your weekly singles play will be three separate matches within your foursome.

  • Match Breakdown: You will play a distinct singles match against each of the other 3 players in your 4-some.
  • Handicap: These matches will be calculated using 75% of your official Golf Canada Index.

2. Doubles Matches (Buffer & Diff)Your doubles match will be against the other pair in your foursome. Strokes are simplified to emphasize the match, not the math.

  • The "3-Point Buffer": Add the indexes of each pair (Sum A vs. Sum B). If the differential between the total pair indexes is 3 or less, the match is played Straight Up (No Strokes).
  • The "High Differential" Rule: If the total index differential between pairs is greater than 3, the match will be played using 50% of the index differential.

II. Course & Tee Box Strategy

  • Tee Rotations: We will alternate between Gold and Gold/Black Combo tee boxes.
  • Captain’s Discretion: The specific rotation for each Monday will be determined and announced by the Captains.

Pro Tip: Keep an eye on your team communications, as the Captains will provide the specific tee box assignment in advance to help you prepare your strategy for the day.

⚔️ Matchplay Mondays: The Gimmie Rule

While the Bayside Cup uses the "Black Tape" rule for stroke play, Matchplay Mondays operate under the traditional USGA rules of concession.

1. Opponent's Discretion

In Matchplay, a gimmie is not automatic. Whether a putt is 2 inches or 2 feet, it must be holed out unless your opponent explicitly says, "That’s good," or "I concede the putt."

  • No Tape Rule: The black tape on the flagstick is a guide for stroke play only. In Matchplay, your opponent has the final say.
  • Strategic Concessions: You may choose to make your opponent hole out a short putt early in the match to test their nerves—that is part of the game.

2. Conceding a Hole

At any time during the play of a hole, a player or team may concede the hole to their opponent. This is usually done when a player is "lying 6" and their opponent is "lying 2" on the green. Once a hole is conceded, the play of that hole stops immediately.

3. The "No-Takeback" Policy

Once a putt or a hole is conceded, it cannot be withdrawn. If you tell your opponent "it's good," the ball is considered holed with the next stroke, regardless of whether they actually go over and tap it in.

⚔️ Matchplay Mondays: The 36-Point System

Unlike traditional matchplay where the game ends once a player is "closed out," Bayside Matchplay requires all 18 holes to be completed to capture your full point potential. Never stop playing. Even if you are losing the overall match, you can still bank significant points by winning the back nine or late holes.

I. Point Breakdown (36 Total Points)

Points are distributed across the round to reward both hole-by-hole grit and overall performance.

  • The "Nines" (6 Points): * Winning the Front 9: 3 pts (Halved: 1.5 pts each)
    • Winning the Back 9: 3 pts (Halved: 1.5 pts each)
  • The Overall Match (12 Points):
    • The winner of the total 18-hole match receives 12 points (Halved: 6 pts each)
  • Individual Holes (18 Points):
    • Each hole is worth 1 point.
    • Win the hole: 1 pt | Halve the hole: 0.5 pts each
    • Note: For Singles Matches, these 18 individual hole points are removed. Points are awarded ONLY for the Nines and The Match.

Matchplay Skins Payouts

Matchplay Skins Payouts

Skins for Matchplay Mondays follow the exact same "Bayside Triple-Standard" as the Saturday Cup.

  • The $100 Pot: Distributed among all Validated Skins.
  • Net Par Floor: You must card a Net Par or better to be eligible for a skin.
  • Gross Beats Net: A Gross Birdie always beats a Net Birdie of the same value.
  • The Validation Rule: You must verify your skin with a Net Par or better on the immediate next hole.
  • No Carryovers: If a skin is tied or fails validation, that money is removed from the day's total payout.

⚔️ Matchplay Mondays: The 36-Point System

The regular season grind all leads to this. Once the standings are finalized, the Top 4 Teams will enter a high-stakes knockout bracket to determine the ultimate Matchplay Monday Champions.

📅 The Playoff Bracket

The semi-finals are seeded to reward the most consistent teams from the regular season:

  • Semi-Final A: Seed #1 vs. Seed #4
  • Semi-Final B: Seed #2 vs. Seed #3

📈 Starting Point Advantages

To reflect the regular season performance, the higher seeds will enter their semi-final matches with a "head start" in the 36-point system:

⛳ The Grand Final

The two winning teams from the semi-finals will advance to the Matchplay Monday Final.

  • Location: Country Hills
  • Dates: Please check the official league calendar for specific tee times and scheduling.

The winner of this final match will be crowned the Bayside Cup Matchplay Champions and will take home the grand prize of $1,200.
